Day 1: Chinese Greetings and Polite Replies (Pinyin Only)

Section 1: Today’s Goal

Today you will learn:

  • How to say hello in Chinese

  • How to reply politely

  • How to say thank you and you’re welcome

  • How to say goodbye

Study time: 10–15 minutes

By the end of today, you should be able to greet someone and end a conversation politely.


Section 2: Core Greetings (Pinyin + Meaning + Explanation)

Learn only these 5 basics today:

  1. Nǐ hǎoHello
    👉 This is the most common way to say hello in Chinese. You can use it with anyone.

  2. Nǐ hǎo! Hěn gāoxìng rènshi nǐ.Hello! Nice to meet you.
    👉 Use this when you meet someone for the first time.

  3. XièxieThank you
    👉 Use this to say thanks in daily situations (shop, class, friends).

  4. Bú kèqiYou’re welcome
    👉 Say this when someone says “thank you” to you.

  5. ZàijiànGoodbye
    👉 This is the normal way to say goodbye when leaving.

Simple tip:
Don’t worry about grammar today. Just say these sentences clearly and slowly.


Section 3: Simple Mini-Dialogue (Pinyin + Meaning)

Dialogue 1

A: Nǐ hǎo!
(Hello!)

B: Nǐ hǎo!
(Hello!)

A: Hěn gāoxìng rènshi nǐ.
(Nice to meet you.)

B: Wǒ yě shì.
(Me too.)

A: Zàijiàn!
(Goodbye!)

B: Zàijiàn!
(Goodbye!)

👉 Read this out loud once slowly, then once normally.


Section 4: Pronunciation Tip (Very Short)

  • Say Nǐ hǎo slowly.

  • Chinese uses tones. The tone changes the sound and meaning.

  • Don’t rush. Clarity is more important than speed.

  • Say Nǐ hǎo five times slowly.


Section 5: Today’s Practice (Very Important)

Your Day 1 Task:

  1. Read all these aloud 3 times:

    • Nǐ hǎo

    • Xièxie

    • Bú kèqi

    • Zàijiàn

  2. Read the dialogue once aloud.

  3. Record your voice saying:
    “Nǐ hǎo! Xièxie! Zàijiàn!”

  4. Repeat this again tomorrow for 2 minutes.
